About Us

Empowering Women Through Technology-Driven Antenatal Care

Founded in 2021 by Dr. Idara Umoette, a seasoned medical professional with over 17 years of experience, Birthsafe addresses the critical gaps in traditional antenatal services, especially for Black women who face disproportionately high risks during pregnancy and childbirth. Our journey began from recognizing the alarming maternal mortality rates in Nigeria, where a woman dies every 10.5 minutes due to childbirth-related causes.

Dr. Umoette envisioned a platform that leverages technology to deliver life-saving antenatal education and support. Since our inception, we have grown from a small community to a robust network supporting over 10,000 registered women across 25 countries.

Aligned with the SDGs

Our work supports Sustainable Development Goals 3 and 5:
Good Health and Wellbeing and Gender Equality.

Our Mission

To impact at least one million women yearly saving them from traumatic outcomes in pregnancy and childbirth.

To provide timely and accurate antenatal education to prevent avoidable pregnancy losses and complications.

To provide women with the tools and knowledge needed for a safe and confident pregnancy

To leverage technology in bridging the gap between healthcare providers and expectant mothers, ensuring continuous support and guidance.

What began in 2022 with just 50 women has grown into a bold movement for safer pregnancies. Today, Birthsafe proudly supports more than 10,000 registered Mamas with life-saving antenatal care. And we are just getting started.

From Lagos to London, Houston to Ontario, Abuja to Port Harcourt, our impact reaches Nigerian women, African women, and women of color in the diaspora; wherever they are, however they are.

Our Vision

Available, accessible and affordable quality antenatal care, leading to safer pregnancies and healthier births, powered by technology.
